BIODIVERCITI is a multi-year citizen science project exploring how private gardens can protect biodiversity and the climate. By observing selected species, applying nature-friendly gardening practices, and reflecting on your environmental mindset, you contribute to real scientific research.

Im Zentrum des Projekts steht eine Kombination aus wissenschaftlicher Forschung und praktischen Maßnahmen. Diese umfassen:

• Observation and reporting of so-called bioindicator species, such as the peacock butterfly, common carder bee, great spotted woodpecker, common frog, or hedgehog, via the platform naturbeobachtung.at. The goal is to make both common and rarer species visible in garden habitats.
• Individual support for creating a more nature-friendly garden, for example through information sheets with concrete measures to promote biodiversity.
• Webinars and online seminars on topics such as native shrubs, creating flower meadows, garden ponds, or dry habitats. These offerings are optional but provide practical inspiration and background knowledge.
• Exchange with other participants and the project team through networking meetings, online events, and joint observation activities.
• Regular online questionnaires that gather information on garden use, attitudes toward nature, knowledge of biodiversity, and changes over time.
